Today we spent most of the day with the 4th of July, Independence Day. It was great! The American teachers wore bandanas that had flags on them and one of my students was quick to point out that it wasn't the real flag because it only had one star! We talked about Britain and fighting the Red Coats. They loved it. They made Star ornaments to hang at our 4th of July party, which we had this afternoon. At our party, we sang "This Land is Your Land" and "America the Beautiful." Then we did the Chicken Dance, YMCA, Hokey Pokey and the Limbo. They cackled. I got great pictures :) The coup de gras was "Pin the Post-it Note on the Flag. They had a lot of fun with it. This afternoon we talked about the Presidency and the White House. We pretended we filled out a ballot and voted. We finally got to the big event: Barack. It was really a nice day.
Tomorrow is holiday day. It should be fun too. We are even having a halloween parade. We will wear masks and walk through the younger kids' rooms. I am glad that the students seem to like what we are doing. I am not really sure they understand us though :)
Dinner was Chinese KFC. An early night of reading and relaxation for me tonight.
Happy 4th to everyone. Be thankful for your life in the States!
Until tomorrow...
What, no fireworks? Can't be the 4th without fireworks. Did you also tell them they would have eaten hot dogs, potato salad, etc for lunch (no rice)? Sounds like we didn't need those electric slide lessons after all :) Holiday day sounds fun!
