July 6 - Opera and Water balloons!

Sunday was very busy and I didn't get to the "special" computer that allows me to blog.  So...

Sunday:  The topic for the day was American Holidays.  My class studied Valentine's Day, St. Patty's Day, Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas, with Halloween after lunch when students made masks and went trick or treating to the younger children's rooms.  They really enjoyed themselves, making paper valentines, shamrocks, easter eggs, turkeys and Christmas trees.  When I came back from lunch two groups of girls had written paragraphs about what they learned that morning ( a lot like the initiative my Snipes students show).  Last evening we went to the Nanjing Opera.  It was very impressive.  Costuming was beautiful.  We got to go back stage and even had our picture taken with the stars!  A good day all over.

Today, we studied clothing . sports.  We compared formal and casual clothing and my students made collages.  After lunch we went to the Park and played hot potato with water balloons.  After, the boys played soccer and the girls played a game about chickens and the hawk.  It was sort of like hide and seek.

We had our daily after school meeting (over an hour of mass confusion).  One thing I have learned on this trip is never count on ANYTHING being the same one hour after it was told to you.  We continue to have our temperatures checked (re: swine flu) and eat lots and lots of rice.  Tonight we are going to a little noodle/dumpling restaurant and then off to a little shopping.  Who knows, if you are very good, you may get a little China love when I get home.

Tomorrow is menus and malls ~ an American's dream.  Oh yeah, I am drinking a luke warm chinese beer as I write this.  Have a great day.

See ya soon...
